The Pine Ridge Basketball teams are a little more than halfway through their regular seasons. The boys’ record is 7-3, which puts them in 3rd place in the PAC East. The girls are 10-0, and currently have a three-game lead for 1st place.

Travis Barnes, head coach of the boys basketball team, is in his sixth year with the team. Coach Barnes, and Coach Rich Gibson, the boys’ assistant coach,  said that the standout boys on the team have been Trey Hampton, Jamal McBride, and Emmanuel Pelzer. Coach Gibson said there are several leaders on the team and everyone puts in effort. He said the team plays hard to be successful, and communicates  well on the court. The boys on the team all have a close bond which makes them understand each other well and encourages each other to play harder for the team.

Coach Gibson recognized the highlight game being against Gilbert, a game Pine Ridge won 48-12. There are more competitive games to come so make sure you stay updated!

Pine Ridge Girls’ Basketball coach Brian Schaffer said their success is based on defense, effort, each player understanding their role, and working together. All of the girls work hard in practice to become better players and a better team. He said there are several leaders on the team, such as Ausheona Hammonds and Saniya Boland.

Coach Schaffer said “It really isn’t about star players. They all work as a team. Ausheona and Saniya have played really well, but I’m also impressed by Na’Asia Henderson,Iyonna Green, Iyanna Henderson and Alyssa Bennett. Plus, Kyra (Hutto) Z, (Zandrina Hordge) and Vic (Victoria Parga) are working hard and really help us out come game-time”. The highlight of the season, so far, was a 4-point win at Batesburg to remain undefeated and in first place.
